The chances of him apologizing to McCain is 1%; I think he takes the argument right back to McCain.  I've speculated that Clark may have a personal issue with McCain (has McCain made statements about how he led the troops in Kosovo?) and that his harsh indictment of McCain stemmed from a little bit of personal animus.

What is interesting is whether he will point out that Obama did not stand up for him.  I completely discount the notion that Obama put him up to it because he was a Hillary person until the end, barely knows Obama, and had to know that the media would have its knives out for him and that Obama would throw him under a bus.

I think he stays away from the personal and goes RIGHT AT McCain's judgement on Iraq?

But, I disagree, he's not going to go back at Obama, hell, I think there is a lot of wink-wink-nod-nod going on?

Obama didn't throw him under the bus, and he knows it.

But, Blazers Edge, as a Clinton'ite, you see this 180 degrees different then I?

I think this is a plus-plus for BOTH Obama and Clark, being played just like it has been.

I'm just in disagreement with all the concern diaries here, this is playing EXACTLY HOW the Obama campaign wants it.

Now, Obama doesn't have to defend or deny anything Wes says, and Wes can go Mano Y Mano with McCain.

And, everyone that says this leaves Wes out for VP is crazy IMHO.

The VP HAS to carry the fight, hell, if Wes can get McCain in some kind of back and forth, he's proven his worth to Obama AND the party as the VP!

I think Wes is a great choice, NATO commander is like being the CEO of a small country?

He's a Southern born and bred, and would play all through the midwest.

Let's see how this plays out?

Maybe he is freelancing, maybe not?

Anyway, IF he gets the McCain camp to engage, it's strictly a win win for the Democrats.

As a fellow Washingtonian, I disagree with you brother.  Clark's comments dominated the airwaves today and took away from the main parts of Obama's patriotism speech.  If this was all orchestrated for Obama to look "above it all," I think it failed also; the media didn't really give Obama "credit" for throwing Clark overboard.

McCain's camp is not letting up too; they are using Clark's statement to attack Obama.  The Obama and Clinton blogosphere is also roasting Obama.  In essense, the day was a total loss for Obama in my opinion; he gets attacked from the right and the left while the middle won't give him "credit" for "honoring" McCain by throwing Clark under the bus.

Washingtonian ... I disagree with you.

Clark helped bring up the question of what makes you qualified to be Commander in Chief. It probably brought attention to Obama's speech. Now people privately may ask themselves... "does getting shot down and being a POW make you a leader?"

Wes Clark IS a leader. John Kerry was/is a leader.  I hope Obama can also be a true leader!

No, they're not. We have the PUMA crowd going ape-sh*t and posting numerous identical concern diaries?

The roasting is being done by folks who wake up in the morning trying to figure out how to roast Obama, I.E, Pissed off Clinton supporters.

McCain didn't take the bait (2.00 / 2)

He didn't attack Clark; he used Clark's statements to attack Obama.

Perhaps if Clark continues to engage him, McCain will come back stronger against Clark.  If it's McCain v. Clark, then Obama is on better footing.  Right now, McCain's camp is trying to blame Obama and I think, they are succeeding because nobody has Obama's back right now.

I have to say that although the brawler in me wished Obama would have come out and clearly supported Clark, the realist knows that he played this correctly. If he would have fanned the flames, this would be a week long story, and I hate to say this but I don't trust the American public to understand or figure out the context of the interview. Instead it will turn into "Obama demeaned McCain's period as a POW! What an anti American hater!!"

Instead this will be a one or two day story and we can get back to talking about how McCain will lead this country into a prolonged economic depression. Let's look at the big picture. I think most of the criticism from our side is coming from Clinton supporters who see this as yet another slap in the face of someone closely associated with the Clinton's. Let's be perfectly honest, what do you think Hillary's response would have been if she won the nomination and Tony McPeak made the same comments?

This might not be accidental. Wesley Clark's statement to the press doesn't mention Obama. Obama disavowed these comments immediately, but all it takes is for Wesley Clark to throw himself out there and keep raising those questions about McCain for the story to take hold. Obama can say that he doesn't speak for him and that he respects McCain's leadership, and McCain gets in an angry pissing contest with an equally well-respected military veteran. At best, it becomes an all-out assault on a general.

Wow... If this WAS done purposefully, it's pretty clever. McCain could be tied up talking about this for at least the next week.

Ever watch The West Wing? (2.00 / 1)

You will see that on occasion these "gaffes" are done purposely for a reason.

I remember on a few episodes there was a preplanned gaffe where a cabinet member will say something controversial and then apologize, knowing he/she said something controversial just to get people talking about the issue.


The American people; they were for the war before they were against it.
